অর্থ: লাঙল দিয়ে জমি চাষ করার পর, ভূমির উপরিভাগ ছোটো বড় মাটির ঢেলায় ভরে যায়। এই মাটিকে গুঁড়ো করা জন্য মই নামক যন্ত্রটি ব্যবহার করা হয়। দুটি সমান্তরাল বাঁশের দণ্ডের মাঝ মাঝে বাঁশের আড়া ব্যবহার করে মই তৈরি করা হয়।
বাংলাদেশে ট্রাক্টরের ব্যবহারের আগে বাংলাদেশের জমি চাষ করার জন্য গরু বা মহিষ ব্যবহার করা হতো। এক্ষের এই জাতীয় পশুকে চাষের পশুর তালিকায় আনা হতো। যেমন চাষের বলদ, চাষের মহিষ ইত্যাদি। জমিতে লাঙল দেওয়ার পর চাষের পশুর জোয়ালের সাথে লম্বা দড়ি দিয়ে মই যুক্ত করে চাষের পশুর পিছনে ভূমির উপর রাখা হতো। এর উপরে কৃষক ওই মইয়ের উপর দাঁড়িয়ে চাষের পশু তাড়না করতো।
